It has been so long since I have sat down to post, but I am determined to start it up again...such a good way to document our lives and for our friends and family afar to keep up! So I will catch up with the past months at a later time...this one is for our most exciting news...a new baby boy.
Welcome to the world Henry Logan Branagh! Born May 2, 2012 at 7:29am. 6lbs. 9oz.
This pregnancy was so quick! I know everyone says this, but it is true! I felt good most of the time, with the exception of TERRIBLE indigestion that I didn't have with G, and somewhat minor constant physical discomfort. My 30 year old body didn't hold up quite as well as it did the first time around! John thought I carried this baby differently than Grady, but I had the same right side bulge that I did with him, like a a foot always pressing against my right ribs...not sure what it really is though. I was kind of anticipating a girl, for some reason. We were both surprised and totally thrilled when Henry was delivered and John said it was another boy! John has always thought that we would be a family of boys...we'll see!
I will spare you all the details, but Henry's labor and delivery were much different than Grady's...I started having contractions in the middle of the night Monday night. They were 10-12 minutes apart, but came and went over the next 24 hours. Tuesday night I was woken up again around midnight, called the doctor at 3:30am when they were consistently 10-12 minutes apart still, called Nana at 4:00am when they rapidly increased to 3-4 minutes apart, left for the hospital at 5:00am at which point I was in serious labor. Got to the hospital at 5:30am, and Henry was here 2 hours later! It was super fast and we could hardly believe when it was all over.
Henry is a little peanut, compared to his big brother that is! I knew the first time I saw him that he was much smaller, nearly 2 pounds smaller, than Grady was at birth. Finally this week he made it to Grady's birth weight! He often looks just like Grady did...it all brings back such sweet memories. And it is fun to tell Grady what he was like when he was just a baby. Henry eats well and poops well, and no dairy allergy like G had! He has Breast milk Jaundice (we are praying this is all it is), so we have been monitoring it pretty closely. It is harmless to him at this point, but we need his levels to go down. This last week they had gone down some, which is great, and we will check again next week. We are working on the whole sleep thing ;). Like his older brother, he fights sleep pretty hard. He LOVES to be held (I know all babies do), meaning he doesn't really like to be put down to sleep. Each day I think is getting a little better though. He loves baths...hates getting out! And is a really sweet little baby. I can hardly wait to see what his little personality develops in to.
The past 8 weeks are somewhat of a blur, I must admit. But we are all doing well...just getting used to life as a family of four! I feel like we are in the grind right now, just kind of surviving, but I know that will end soon enough and I will be missing these sweet newborn days. Grady is the best big brother ever...always wants to know where Henry is, always wanting to give him kisses and hugs. Always alerts me when Henry is crying, and he helps me soothe Henry by saying, "It's ok Henry, it's ok. Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shhhhhh," as he hods the pacifier to Henry's mouth. He also tells us often "I uv Henry so much!".
Life is sweet and we are so thankful for this amazing Little Blessing.
