February

The Heart Walk was great! It was a beautiful day! We had a great turnout (about 40 adults and 20 kids!) and it was very sweet time together. Thank you to everyone who was able to come and thank you those whose thoughts were with us. And don't feel bad if you didn't even know...it's was pretty last minute and just meant to be a very casual thing this year. I am inspired to do it right next year...I will let you known the date ASAP, but we will plan for National Heart Month in February again.

Henry stayed awake the entire morning...he must have known that we were all there for him ;). And Grady ran the whole way around the Reservoir (3 miles) and then ran around and tackled and played for another 2 hours...his energy was endless! His favorite tackling buddies were Brody, Peter, and Papa. Malin, of course, made it in for a few tackles too!

February was a hard month in terms of Henry's health...ever since his hospitalization in January, he has had a tough time fully recovering. He got a little cold a couple of weeks ago that set him back, and it wasn't until just this week that I am feeling like we are close to where we were at the beginning of the year. He had stopped eating solids completely, which was daunting. We don't want him to have a total food aversion...this is something that can be common with his condition. But the past few days, he has slowly been eating again. Such an answer to prayer! And he seems to be sleeping better, even though he continues to vomit a couple of time each night. Needless to say, the washing machine has been running pretty constantly this past month. The top priority right now it to get him to always be growing, even just a little. Not so much to make him bigger, but if he isn't growing, he isn't able to produce new heart muscle, which is very important. And he has had a hard time growing this past month.
So, I know I have said before that Grady is completely boy, full of energy, rough and tough, and quite the adventurer. (Sidenote: he is still one of the sweetest kiddos around, despite his craziness...and can sit very still to watch a movie and read books for hours). Here he is about to ride his tricycle off of this pile of mulch in our backyard. Thankfully we caught him just in time and stopped his crazy idea. But John saw him pull his trike up the pile and balance it as he climbed on. This happened just hours after I caught him trying to ride his scooter off the stairs on our back porch! Again, thankfully I looked over just in time!
I took the time this past month to deliberately spend some one on one time with G...something I haven't gotten to do too much of lately. One morning, we went to a little kids play museum together and lunch. I thought we would grab a piece of pizza, but when I asked him what he thought, he said, "I think we should have Chick-fil-A, Mommy!". We had only been there twice before, once through the drive through for dinner and once to meet friends in the morning. He obviously liked it! We all do, and are very excited to have one close by now! It has been fun introducing our California friends to this southern treat! And, of course, we got an ice cream cone to go! Our other "date" was taking Belle to give her a bath ;)
